May 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AAPIHM).

AAPIHM celebrates the history and cultures of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and highlights the contributions they have made to the United States. From local events to podcasts and reading recommendations, here are some ways you can celebrate AAPIHM in and around the DMV region.

AAPIHM was first started in 1992 by the United States Congress as Public Law 102-450. May was chosen to mark the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, as well as the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869.
