About this event

An ancient Japanese beverage that has been brewed for more than 2,000 years, sake is currently experiencing a golden age of creative experimentation and international expansion. “Exploring the World of Japanese Craft Sake: Rice, Water, Earth” co-author Nancy Matsumoto will introduce this fermented rice drink, explaining how it is made as well as current trends in sake. Guests will enjoy five premium craft sakes paired with five small Italian-Japanese plates by Tonari D.C. chef Katsuya Fukushima, learning about the breweries behind the tastings and why we chose these particular pairings. Two basic truths about sake are that sake pairs with food better than wine, and that sake can pair with any type of cuisine: our tasting will be a small demonstration of these two facts. A signed copy of the book will be included in the event ticket price.

Sake tastings are courtesy of Amabuki Shuzo, Kodama Jozo, Komé Collective, Tenzan Shuzo, and Tippsy Sake.

This event is hosted by Tonari DC.
